KAMP, GEORGE EDWARD - age 76, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Ben Atchley State Veterans' Home. George had been an Eagle Scout, Free Mason, Shriner and an active member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He was born March 1, 1938, on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. In later years, he had been a resident of Oak Ridge and Knoxville. George received his Bachelor's degree from Culver-Stockton College and Master's degree from the University of Connecticut. He advanced to a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, 1961 to 1965, serving on a diesel-electric powered submarine and as an instructor at the Navy Officer Candidate School. George retired in 1998 from the Department of Energy, Office of Technology Development in Oak Ridge. His love for the water encouraged competitive swimming, winning competitions as a teenager and adult in military and civilian life. He had a great passion for scuba diving and was a Certified Dive Master. His other favorite activities included adult Master swimming at Oak Ridge, fishing, skiing, and golf. To morn his passing, George leaves his wife, caregiver, companion, lover, and best friend, Marca (Ogle) Kamp; son and daughter-in-law, Baron Kamp and Rita Kamp; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Kamp Bowers and Kenny Bowers; and grandson, Lane Bowers. We cannot begin to name all of George's many friends over the years, all fondly remembered and appreciated. Due to his advanced Parkinson's, George was a resident at the Ben Atchley Veterans' Home for several years, and we are so grateful for all their loving care. As a resident once stated, "This place runs like a clock - a clock with a heart." The family will receive friends at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10th at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with a celebration of life to follow at 7:00 p.m., Rev. Ann Robins will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
