Harold Michael (Mike) Johnson passed away on February 26, 2022 at the age of 73 at his home in Chantilly, Virginia.

Mike was born on February 16, 1950 at Fort Lee, Virginia, the second child of Maj. (Ret.) Harold E. Johnson, Jr. and Dorothy E. Johnson.  Mike spent his early childhood as an Army brat traveling to different Army posts in the U.S. and Europe with his family.  He lived his teen years in Petersburg, Virginia where he graduated from Gibbons High School and later graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1972.  He then obtained an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University.  His career involved work as a financial analyst for Merrill Lynch, Anthem HealthCare, and Pitney Bowes, from whom he retired in 2007.

Mike was a scholar of the military history of the Civil War and the World Wars and he was an avid long-distance runner.  He competed in dozens of marathons including the Boston Marathon. 

Mike was a devoted son and supportive brother to his two sisters, taking the reins of family matters following his father’s early death.  While living in Chantilly, he travelled frequently back to Petersburg to tend to his mother and younger sister.  

Mike is survived by his older sister Dorothea J. Kersey of Farragut, Tennessee and his younger sister Clare Marie Johnson who relocated to Knox County, Tennessee from Petersburg following Mike’s passing.  Mike also leaves behind a nephew and two nieces, as well two great nephews and three great nieces.

Mike’s ashes have been interred at Pleasant Forest Cemetery in Farragut to be near his remaining family.
