J. Frank (Doc) Russell Jr, age 80, of Concord passed away Monday evening, August 17, 2009 at his home.

Doc was a current member of Faith Fellowship Presbyterian Church and was a long time member of Concord Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Farragut High School Class of 1947 and received his BS in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee in 1952. Doc enlisted in the U S Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U S Army Reserve in 1989 as a Colonel, and received the Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding service. He was a farmer, operated Russell's Grocery until its closing in 1981 and worked at Mayo's Garden Center until his retirement. Doc was on the Farragut Museum Committee, a member of the Highland Park Ruritan Club and a board member of Pleasant Forest Cemetery. He was an avid golfer, gardener, and enjoyed his friends and workouts at Ft Sanders Fitness Center.

Doc was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Axley Russell; parents, J. Frank Russell Sr. and Savannah Henson Russell; sisters, Ann Russell Meeks and Caroline Russell Dougherty.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff Russell and wife, Brenda of Nashville, Bill Russell of Knoxville; grandsons, Jay and Seth Russell; brothers-in-law, Dr. Edwin Meeks and Tom Dougherty; sister-in-law, Martha Palmer; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Friday followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Dr. Jeff Sledge officiating. Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Forest Cemetery for graveside services with full military honors conferred by the U S Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Forest Cemetery and Faith Fellowship Bldg. Fund.
