JAMES ALLEN LAWELL – age 81, died on October 13, 2015. He was a native of Knoxville and a retired educator from Knoxville City Schools who received many accolades through his years of teaching math and social science at East and South High Schools. Jim was an avid U.T. Volunteer fan and spent many happy hours rooting for the team of his alma mater. Mr. Lawell held B.S, M.S. and EDS degrees from the University of Tennessee and was an officer in the U.S. Army. He and his wife Mildred were longtime and faithful members of Church Street UMC and the Murphy Builders Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rena Mae Lawell and brother, Kenneth Lee Lawell. Survivors are his loving wife of 49 years, Mildred Atkins Lawell; brother-in-law, James (Phyllis) Atkins; niece, Kathryn Atkins(Russell) Roberson; nephew, Douglas (Joy) Atkins. Visitation will be from 10:00am -11:00 am Monday, October 19th at Church Street UMC with Celebration of Life to follow at 11 am. Interment is planned for 2:00 pm at Pleasant Forest Cemetery, Concord Road, Knoxville. Memorial gifts may be made to Church Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1303, Knoxville, TN 37901.
