Russell Porter Shockley, age 83 of Farragut passed away Friday evening, May 2, 2008 at his home.

Russell was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He was a native of Spencer, TN. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army Air Corps in the U.S., England, France and Germany. He graduated from the University of Tennessee and married Deane Hamby Shockley, his devoted wife of sixty years, in 1948. He worked for GMAC in Chattanooga, TN Chicago, IL Green Bay,WI and Davenport, IA, before returning to Knoxville in 1970. After retiring from the automotive industry in 1990, he focused on his family and his passion for sports and public affairs. An avid golfer, he scored holes-in-one some forty years apart. A true gentleman, he loved life and laughter and brought joy to all he touched.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilna Jo Shockley
; father, Creed Bates Shockley; mother, Cornelia Clark Shockley; and sister-in-law, Levona Tipps.

He is survived by his wife, Deane Shockley; daughter, Carole Shockley of Dayton, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Caroline Shockley of Nashville; grandsons, Connor and Graham Shockley; sister, Barbara Hitchcock of Nashville; sister-in-law, Pauline Robbins of New Bern, NC; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Catherine Nance officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Forest Cemetery with military honors.
