Joseph A. "Joe" Carriere, a member of the BMI Board of Directors, died Sunday, November 5, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was 66.

Mr. Carriere was President of Broadcast Consultants, a broadcasting consuting firm located in Knoxville. A BMI board member since 1985, he served as its Chairman from 1986 to 1989. Mr. Carriere's four-decade career as a broadcast professional included positions as President/CEO of Caprock Communications, Roswell, New Mexico; Vice President/General Manager of KELO-TV, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Executive Vice President/General Manager of KWTV, Oklahoma City; President of Coastal Television, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; General Manager of Withers Broadcasting of Colorado; and President, Broadcasting, Gray Communications, Knoxville. Among his many awards and associations, Mr. Carriere served as Chairman of the CBS Affiliate Advisory Board; Director of the Association of Maximum Service Telecasters; Director of the National Association of Broadcasters; and President of the New Mexico Broadcasters Association. He was voted New Mexico Broadcaster of the Year in 1988. He also served as an Instructor of Communications at Knoxville College and as a member of S.C.O.R.E. After graduation from Boston University, Mr. Carriere served in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Major.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Reischman Carriere; daughters and son-in-law Candace J. and Terry H. Cole of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Allison A. Carriere of Alexandria, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Joseph A. "Joe," Jr. and Georganne V. Carriere of Tuscon, Arizona; and grandchildren Mathew and Christa Cole and Jackson Carriere.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 8 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. The funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 9, at 3 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church Building Fund, 110 Sugarwood Drive, Farragut, TN 37922.
