On Monday, May 14, 2018, Dorothy Kenison Lee passed away peacefully at the age of 90. She was surrounded by family in her home. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children: Debi and Greg Bradsher, Dave and Karen Lee, Mike Lee, Sandee and Clint Hurley, and Steve and Stacy Lee. She will also be remembered by her 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded by her beloved spouse Winslow Boyd Lee, her 5 siblings and her parents.
Born in Flandreau, SD, Dorothy graduated in 1945 from Egan High School, Colman, SD. Shortly thereafter, she moved to California to work. There she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After her conversion she served an 18 month proselyting mission in the Texas-Louisiana mission. Dorothy then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT where she graduated with honors with a degree in Home Economics and met and married the love of her life, Boyd Lee.
Dorothy moved many times due to Boyd’s position in as an oral pathologist in the United States Public Health Service, but settled in Germantown, TN after his retirement, where they lived for 27 years. She was awarded the Tennessee Mother of the Year in 1995. Dorothy’s hobby was truly serving everyone she possibly could. She held numerous leadership positions within the LDS church. She and Boyd served as president and matron of the LDS Memphis, TN Temple from 2000-05. She was as a founding member of the Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC) guild, serving from 1995-2009 and was president for 3 years. She also served as the chaplin for the Shelby County Republican Women’s organization and as President of the UT Health Science Center’s Faculty Wive’s Newcomers Club for several years.
After moving to Farragut, TN in 2009, Dorothy volunteered at the Farragut Library and the LDS Bishop’s Store House ( a food pantry).
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11837 Grigsby Chapel Road, Farragut, TN 37919. Viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. with services from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. President Thomas Clapp will be officiating with Bishop David Sexton conducting. Interment will follow at the family plot at Pleasant Forest Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
