Edward Lee "Ed" Johnson, age 102 of Knoxville passed into Heaven on Sunday morning, January 27, 2019 at L & L Sweet Home Care. Ed was born in South Knoxville and graduated from Young High School Class in 1935. Ed married Frances Smith of Concord in 1941 and they had a happy home together. She preceded him in death in 1989. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 36th Texas Infantry Division in Italy, France, Germany and Austria. After the war, he worked with the Tennessee Valley Authority as an Engineering Aide until his retirement in 1976. He had a strong Christian faith and was an active member first at South Knoxville Baptist Church, later at Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. Ed enjoyed all sports, playing golf from the age of 40 until he turned 93. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Ed is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Steve Cottrell; grandsons and wives, Eamonn and Angela Cottrell, Lee and Laura Cottrell all of Knoxville, Parke and Allie Cottrell of Nashville; great grandchildren, Frances, Polly, Robert, Tristan and Adalyn; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Click Funeral Home Chapel with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3 p.m. Rev. Damon Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Forest Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the U S Army and the East Tennessee Veteran's Honor Guard. Serving as pall bearers will be; Eamonn, Lee, Parke Cottrell and Gary Webster. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Ed's family is deeply grateful to his care-givers: Beverly, Angela, Helen, Lisa, Charmaine, Denisha, Lynn and Leon for their friendship and loving care.
