Glenmore Garrett "Rhett" Wilson III, 34 died January 4th at UAB Hospital. A member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, he was an honors graduate of Farragut High Class of 1999. He received a B.S. in Microbiology from Clemson University in 2003, where he was a Calhoun Honors Scholar and a member of the Alpha Phi Omega (service fraternity), Omicron Delta Kappa and Gold Key. He attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin and earned an MBA.
Rhett was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glenmore and Gladys Wilson, Knoxville and William and Mary Sue Hoffman, Nashville. He is survived by his loving wife, Shelly; the daughter he adored, Gabrielle; parents, Gary and Suzanne Wilson; sisters, Julie (Tom) Reed, Amy (Matthew) McDonald; nieces, Cora Hope McDonald and Maya Grace McDonald; nephew, Drew Reed; in-laws Carl and Nancy Garner; and many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. Rhett's Christian faith was lived out in his concern for others. He was passionate about life, family and sports. We will never forget his joyous smile when his beloved Clemson Tigers won a spot in the college football championship game, on the same day he won a spot on the list for a liver transplant.
Celebration of life will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, South Campus. You can wear orange to honor Rhett, Clemson and UT. Reception to follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to Gabrielle's education savings account.
