William Stone was the son of Robert and Angeline Stone. In the 1870 census he was listed as being 3 years old and as having two older sisters, Disa (age 5) and Fanney (age 7). The family lived in Concord, Tennessee. His father, Robert (age 45 in 1870) was born in South Carolina. His mother Angeline (age 25 in 1870) was born in Georgia. William and his sisters were all born in Tennessee. His father worked as a farm hand and his mother was a housewife raising three children.
In the 1880 census, William is listed as being 14 and working as a farm laborer. He is still living with his mother (age 40 in 1880 census) and father (age 56 1880 census). His two older sisters are not on this census, but the family now includes Isabel (age 9 in 1880), John (age 7 in 1880) and Martha (age 5 in 1880).
In the 1900 census, William is listed as being 30 and employed as a farmer. His father is still head of the household (85 in 1900 census) and his mother is still keeping house (75 in 1900 census). Of interest, his parents are listed as having been married 60 years and as having a total of 15 children with 8 still living in 1900). The household also consists of John, age 27, a son; grandson "Rossa", age 2; daughter-in-law, Annie, age 20, and daughter, Sarah, age 16. Mrs. Stone's age has varied greatly in the various census over time. Given the fact that she has a 16 year old daughter in 1900, it is probable that her age as given in the 1870 census is a higher probability.
In the 1910 census, William is listed as age 42, and his wife of 13 years, Mayme, age 28, Their children are Effie B, age 12; James R., age 10; Angeline E.I., age 7; William H, age 4; and Virgie M.L., age 1 year 9 months.
William Stone died December 15, 1914 of pneumonia and was buried at Pleasant Forest.
