 William “Bill” Harold Cannon went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 15, 2023, one day after celebrating his 93rd birthday.

Bill was born July 14, 1930, in Nashville, Tennessee and a graduate of Isaac Litton high School in Nashville. He attended the Vanderbilt University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Bill served in the United States Marine Corp as Second Lieutenant in an engineering battalion during the Korean War, and was leter Honorably Discharged as a Captain in the Marine Corp Reserves. Upon completing this service, he joined the Consulting Engineering firm – later to be known as Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon – establishing the firm’s East Tennessee presence as well as serving as its President and then Chair when he retired in 1996. Bill received numerous local, state, and nationsl recognitions throughout his career both as a consultant and one known as a man committed to “giving back” to the community. And he has been credited as a key component in the Knoxville’s 1992 World’s Fair remarkable success. But when asked what project gave him the most satisfaction, he quickly speaks of helping to secure grants, implementing the design and overseeing the construction to run fresh, public water to a poverty-stricken area of Campbell County, TN, a place where well water source had been contaminated for years.
